CHUNG, MALHAS & MANTEL, PLLC, congratulates the new Prime Minister of Senegal, Her Excellency, Ms. Aminata Touré, on her appointment to form and head the new government of President Micky Sall.

On Sunday September 1st, Prime Minister Aminata Touré became the second Senegalese woman at the Head of the government since Senegal gained its independence in 1960, following Ms. Mame Madior Boye who led former President Wade’s first government, between March 2001 and November 2002. Prior to her nomination, Prime Minister Aminata Touré served as Minister of Justice where she successfully led the government’s anti-corruption campaigns and policies, pursuing high-level cases involving senior officials.

A renowned Politician & long-standing Human Rights Advocate, Prime Minister Aminata Touré’s career has been dedicated to women’s rights and reproductive rights advocacy.  Her impressive career also includes working as a high-level United Nations official, where she headed the Department of Human Rights for the United Nations Population Fund in New York. During her nine years of experience and leadership at the United Nations, she extensively engaged herself in international campaigns to promote gender equality, and to improve access to reproductive rights and health care. Educated in Senegal, France and United States, she holds several degrees in international economics.

Prime Minister Aminata Touré announced in her acceptance speech at the Palace of the Republic in Dakar: “I accept this position with great humility, promising to renew my commitment and mark precisely this new challenge, under the seal of the acceleration of actions taken since last year… I take the baton to continue the race. It’s a race for the development and improvement of living conditions of our people. This mission is accomplished in an international context which is not easy, an international context marked by the crisis.”
